FDA Unapproved Drugs Initiative

Thank you for visiting our Unapproved Drugs Resource Center. The intent of the Center is to educate the public on the health risks associated with drugs that have never been approved by the FDA, and to clarify the safety improvements we have made for patients needing colchicine therapy. In addition, in an effort to correct recent published reports on unapproved colchicine and COLCRYS^® (colchicine, USP), we have inserted responses in each of these articles where the information was either incorrect, incomplete or misleading.

There are instances in which some medically necessary unapproved drugs should not be removed from medical use until an FDA-approved version of the drug is available. However, after an FDA-approved product is fully available then there is no justification to continue exposing the public to the dangers of an unapproved product.
